Agro Africa
Agriculture and the Agro-Industry in Africa and Egypt
For many countries across Africa, agriculture remains one of the most important sectors of the economy. Agriculture accounts for 14% of total GDP in sub-Saharan Africa, and a majority of the continent’s population is employed in the sector. In addition, export crops such as coffee, tobacco, oranges, fruit and cotton are important sources of foreign exchange for every country on the continent.
In Egypt, Agriculture has long been a critical pillar of the economy, strengthened by rich natural conditions around the Nile, the country produces an array of fruits, vegetables, cereals, cotton, sugar, fisheries, feed, fertilizers, and livestock for both domestic consumption and export. The sector is taking renewed importance domestically, with clear growth in demand for exports, and the government’s efforts to boost production through research-based policy reforms and technologies to move closer towards food security.
